International Cuisine Conference on Traditional Asian Diet Panaji, Goa, September 2-5, 2007 - http://www.indologygoa.in Online Media Partner: http://www.goanet.org ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dear Goanet founders, moderators, readers and contributers, Congratulations on its 13 anniversary. It is definately a long time and wish you much grace and enthusiasm to move ahead for many many years in your endeavour. Goanet was a foresight of some very enthusiastic Gentlemen from Goa 13 years back and see today, its grown marvelously well. Well done buddies! Turning 13 and going strong is a huge blessing! I was a silent reader of Goanet for many years and it is only of late that i felt to actively get involved in writing a few of my opinions in this forum. Not to mention, my hectic day looks highly incomplete, if i do not check Goanet...and the love and bond keeps growing each day. Many a times we face the flak, many a times we get the bouquets and yet at times we face the brickbats. But on the 13th year of this organisation, i would like to echo my sentiments to the co-ordinators of this forum that let us all re-dedicate ourselves in upholding Goenkarponn and fight against the injustice being done to Goans, Koankanni and the daylight loot and rape of our beautiful land. Goa today is under threat, apart from across the borders, from within. There are people ruling us who have no foresight nor a foreplan -- they are all interested in looting for the sake of their future generations. Of late Goanet is actively getting involved in voting your opinion on the recent development in the state. And the voice of the people is heard. These surveys mean a lot as it is the opinion of the people. i have observed that on this forum, more and more people are delving in the past -- of the times of the MGP rule, the merger issue, the Portuguese era, etc. All this is a good page of the colourful history of Goa, but what does the future behold? I see it as doom, when one goes to Goa, we all see much non-goans, non-koankanni speaking people and people who hardly fit and live the Goan culture. Today in Goa we see more of red-spit from paan than the concrete on the roads. We see more dhotiwallas than the Goans decently attired. Slowly our business are being taken over and Goans one day will find it difficult to find land for their own offspring. On the 13th anniversary let us pledge to be a constructive form of media, not like the media in goa which swings to the ruling government's side inorder to gain the Government adverts. Except for Rajan Narayan's Goan Observer, no media in Goa is worth a mention and i feel has totally been bought over. Let us all join hands, Goans in Goa and the world over to change the face of Goanet and let us bring it in the spotlight as a constructive medium of providing a constructive voice against the corruption, nepotism and red tape that engulfs Goa, today. I know many of you out there will have your own arguments to all that I have said, but instead of putting each other down or trying to act like the old goan saying -- crab mentality or crabs in the bucket-- let us unite under Goanet, irrespective of caste, class or religion. Let us try to bring back the lost glory of Goa via Goanet. I wish more and more of us spread the word of Goanet to others who despite of it being running for 13 odd years still do not have had the privelege of logging to it even once. Let us introduce Goanet to more Goans and increase its reader and contributor base. And i hope the moderators will agree to me on this one. The voice of Goans is stiffled in Goa, but let Goanet be the future voice of saving Goa or rescuing Goa from the clutches of the demons that threaten to destroy it for good. Let Goa breathe, and live freely! Goanet may have just turned 13 --- it might have just grown out of its infancy and into its teens -- but the future is bright, let this forum mature further as it has over the years. So that one day we see a well-known, strong forum of whom even the corrupt politicians are sacred to face, to an extent like how the GBA is feared by the corrupt politicians and beauracrats in Goa. The Goa that was is totally going going gone, the Goa -- that is is scary and the Goa -- that will be is enough to give true Goans many a sleepless nights! I apologise any inconv caused through these lines, hope we get the bigger picture! Long live Goanet and the dedicated team. Specially, the ever-patient, Mr Bosco in Canada, with whom i've had a lot of personal interactions intitially. God bless Goanet! and once again toast you guys to a long and blessed future in the greater interest of Goans and GOA! Viva Goa! Viva Goanet!
