Hello Martinho
I have been too pressed for time to reply sooner to your challenging comments
on The Church and Casteism. As I have probably expressed myself on Goanet, more
than most on caste among the Catholic Goans, I will try and keep my post short
and address the specific subject title at a later date.

1.Methinks that you unduly apportion blame to the Hindus for casteism in
Catholic Goa today. Surely the blame lies squarely with our very own stalwart
chemprekar and chemprekan (spelling?) who have been engendering the foul
ideology of caste for almost 600 years after embracing Catholicism.

  2. It is indeed very sad that, one of the most beautiful parts of the world
called Goa is also significant as the breeding/nurturing ground of the evil and
enduring brown on brown racist casteism within the billion strong worldwide
Catholic community that now needs to discover the full sordid picture.

  3. As you know me well, I can reiterate that, I have never been affected by
caste personally but know a great number who have. Indeed, I have excellent ex
Bamon and ex Chardo friends whom you and I know well. In intense discussions,
they have, to all intents and purposes, rejected the caste into which they were
accidentally born and bred. Above all, they have realised that caste is nothing
more than untenable evil humbug. In them and others who have said things like
"I have no caste as I am a Catholic" I see the potential for new social capital
that is badly needed among Catholic Goans.

I have so much more to say but will limit myself to the above three points
for now. However, I look forward to receiving your response.
  Kind regards
Cornel DaCosta, Kunbi Vaddo, London, UK.
