This morning I was in Verem at the Shantadurga temple (where
my parents had married) to take some photographs. I got an earful
from the local villagers who come there for the daily morning seva.
On the hill right across the temple the communinade land has been
"given away" to the ghatis to squat on. These ghatis happen to be
muslims. Someone is obviously developing a vote bank.
This land grab is not the only issue that has incensed the villagers.
The ghatis slaughter animals, and given their abysmal habits,
discard the remains out in the open. Stray dogs and birds
then bring body parts and other carrion and deposit them in
the temple yard. The locals have complained to the authorities
but nobody heeds the Goan. Once the ghatis acquire critical
mass time the area may well develop into a communal hotspot.

ps: Commie mommy Teesta and Perfusser Puniyani will come
running should there be a flare-up in which muslims are affected.
If Hindus get killed mommy Teesta and the rest of the comrades
will still find ways to pin the blame on the Hindus.
