BY HERALD REPORTER MARGAO, SEPT 23 Does Save Goa Front (SGF) supremo Churchill Alemaos writ no longer runs large in the three-month-old political party which he founded on the eve of the Assembly polls? His detractors within the SGF say Alemao indeed finds himself isolated on a host of issues, including his stand on Mopa, Congress ticket for his lawyer daughter and talks about the partys merger. Churchill, on the other hand, rubbishes claims by his detractors. Barring just two, all the members are solidly behind me. These two members are backed by the BJP and Luizinho Faleiro to create confusion in the party. I have maintained silence for the moment. I would soon call a meeting to prove who are with whom, Alemao asserted. Sources said SGF general secretary Dr Wilfred Mesquita and founder President Sidhanath Buyao have become the rallying force for many a SGF member to oppose Alemaos moves, especially his plan to field his daughter on the Congress ticket. In the game of one-upmanship, party MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has rallied behind the party leaders in opposing the move and also to retain partys identity. Many say Reginaldo has turned out a rallying force for the anti-Alemao group within the outfit to counter Alemaos moves. Sources say Reginaldo has an axe to grind against Alemao after getting a raw political deal from the party supremo. While Alemao has got the prized PWD portfolio and is now lobbying hard for a Congress ticket for his daughter Valanka, the Curtorim MLA is peeved over being cold shouldered by Alemao on his host of demands, including claim for a ministership. In fact, Reginaldo is believed to have sent a message to Churchill not to consider him as another former Curtorim MLA Anton Gaonkar. It is learnt that while Alemao is pushing for awarding a chairmanship for party treasurer Ganashyam Shirodkar a strong Alemao loyalist the move has come in for opposition from Reginaldo and others. Incidentally, sources said the Election Commission still treats Sidhanath Buyao as the SGF president as correspondence from the EC is sent in his name. Alemaos overt and covert lobbying for a Congress ticket for his daughter has earned him the ire of his party leaders. Can you imagine a party leader, considered supreme by the rank and file, lobbying hard to field his daughter on the Congress ticket? Presuming the Congress agrees for Alemaos demand, where will the SGF and other leaders stand in the political scheme of things, questioned an anti-Alemao leader. http://oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=1647&cid=10 Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
