Vigilance sleuths on Tuesday swooped down at the Mapusa Yard next to the KTC bus stand between 2.30 and 2.45 pm and trapped PC Rajesh Warang while accepting the bribe of Rs 10,000 from a woman in a restaurant. SP Vigilance Bosco George said Warang was nabbed when he had gone to collect the amount at the instance of the lady PSI Sandhya Gupta, who he alleged had made a demand of Rs 40,000 to let an accused person have some leeway to travel to Mumbai and back. He said Anti-Corruption branch in the Vigilance Department acted after the woman (mother of the accused person), Lajnanti Datwani, filed a complaint with the ACB on Monday. She also produced before the ACB two conversations cleverly taped on a voice recorder, he added. Bosco divulged that one of the recordings was of PSI Gupta on September 28 at Hotel Sanyog in the city, while in the second bit of conversation on Monday Warang has been caught talking about coming to Mapusa to pick up the bribe amount. It may be recalled that the Lajnantis son, Sunil Datwani, 25, was arrested in a raid conducted by ANC sleuths led by PSI Gupta. Sunil was caught with 9 gms charas on September 22 night in North Goa. He was bailed out by the court and was asked to report to ANC daily at 11 am. SP Bosco said as per the deal worked out, Gupta allowed Sunil to travel along with his mother to Mumbai on October 2. Both, mother and son, returned to Goa on October 6. Even as PC Warang was arrested in Mapusa today, another team of ACB landed at the ANC office in the city and searched some drawers used by Gupta. They attached some documents pertaining to Sunils case. Warang, who has been dismissed, was booked under Sections 7 and 13 (i) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act. When questioned why Warang was not arrested, Bosco said, As a matter of policy, ACBs all over the country do not arrest unless the amount is huge. Secondly, the PC is government servant. DIG Ujjwal Mishra told reporters in the evening that Warang was immediately dismissed from service. When questioned what action awaits PSI Gupta, he said, I am awaiting a report from the ACB. Meanwhile, till late evening the PSIs house at Altinho was being searched for any disproportionate assets. http://oheraldo.in/pagedetails.asp?nid=2502&cid=2 Sanny de Quepem <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Send instant messages to your online friends http://uk.messenger.yahoo.com
