The word gypsy may have come from the English word to mean Egyptian , just
like they (The English) call the coloured people 'wogs'.
These words are colloquial e.g. apples and pears means upstairs.
Actually the word 'wog' means any foreigner, English can be called wogs in
USA too.
But they dare not say that, coz they will be calling that to themselves.
Further to the explanation you have given, it also says.
