They very much do whatever they please. Dear Edward, This may not be entirely accurate. It is true that under the principle of the 'separation of powers', the courts are cautious not to interfere with the actions of the 'executive'. However, if the actions of the authorities are illegal, irrational or (Wednesdaybury) unreasonable, the courts may rule against the executive in an action brought under Judicial Review.
