Let me start with the other 2 films I watched at IFFI Each movie at IFFI2007 cost me about Rs.434 as I have watched only 3 and the cost for delegate Pass was Rs.1300 (with late fee, otherwise Rs.300 only).
One of the reasons I had to watch only 3 is because I dont like watching alone and there were no one from the close friends circle who had DP of IFFI2007 as the movies are for DP holders only. 4 women (Naalu Pennugal) Dir. Adoor Gopalakrishnan Malayalam/Kerela I Like this movie very much. Its about the women and the society. How society looks at those women who married but no children, unmarried and living alone etc Typical keralite rural life, with beautiful scenery, greenery, mode of water transport like canoe, trees, fields, houses etc etc. I remember those days in Goa, when having afternoon nap, suddenly I woke up after a sudden fall of a Chuddit or Chuddet (leaf of Coconut tree) with a big bang next to bed/window. Something like is is beautifully shown in the movie, a typical rural life. It was full of fun too. It made every body laugh when one fellow, a new son-in-law, eating too much as if it was a eating competition eat as much as you can. Nature lovers like me, this is a must see movie. Cecilie (COW) COW=Cinema of the world Denmark/Dir, Hans Fabian Well, I was not sure what this movie is all about and all I knew was CECILIE is like CECELIA name of a person (female). The movie is of HORROR/Thriller type (My favorites). Has anybody seen 1980s Bollywood Movie KARZ with Rishi Kapoor, Tina Munim, Raj Kiran, Simi Gariwal etc OK, how about the latest OM SHANTI OM ? (Nov.2007) with Sharuk Khan etc I am sure you watch this one. I thought the Re-incarnation or re-birth is only believed in India. But I was wrong, similar movie is also produced in Denmark i.e. CECILIE. Its all about re-incarnation where a girl was murdered by some of her school staff members about 10/15 years ago but when CECILIE (with her boyfriend) moves in a new house, she started hearing strange voices, seeing things etc. Her boyfriend after taking medical help decided to shift her in a psychiatric home much against the wishes of CECILIE. One of the medical team members did believe in what she says and helped her to find the truth. In the end, she confronted all the killers of the school girl and finally visits the girls old aged mother as her daughter. The boyfriend quietly accept the defeat as he sees the doctor winning the heart of CECILIE. In KARZ, the wife kills husband, whereas in Om Shanti Om, husband kills wife. Fados (Spanish/Portugal) Dir. Carlos Sauro Well, this was the IFFI2007 closing Film at Kala Academy with sitting capacity 925. Late evening, it was also shown (unscheduled) in all the 4 INOX screens all at the same time 21.30 with total sitting capacity 1274. By 8pm all tickets gone (house full). I was in INOX 3 with 230 viewers (full), the movie started around 9.45. Starting was very good, started with a song which was liked by every one and hence public applause . Then the movie continues with song after song or fados after fados. It is a musical film but not like Marry Poppins etc it was more like Boney M or ABBA musical show or TV or DDs Chayagheet or Chitrahar Fados, I think is an age old tradition of Portugal a type of singing based on various subjects like LOVE, WAR, REVOLUTION etc (something like MANDOS we have in Goa). The movie brought such age old tradition i.e. Fado singing almost live and original. Full marks for that and I am sure all those Portuguese, Spanish or Brazilians will love it. But sadly, the audience in which I was sitting has not taken it too well as people started leaving the hall soon after the first 15 minutes. By 10.20 more than half the auditorium was empty and when I left around 23hrs there were about 30 people only (out of 230).
