------------------------------------------------------------------------ * * * 2007 ANNUAL GOANETTERS MEET - GOA * * * ------------------------------------------------------------------------ WHERE: Foodland Cafe - Miramar Residency - Miramar, Goa
WHEN: December 27, 2007 @ 4:30pm More info: http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/2007-December/066098.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Dears, I am copying the message below because it has a message for all of us. Without too much of effort and cost we can help the unfortunate in our home towns and villages IF WE CARE TO SHARE. The Christmas crib is not the only thing that we crib about. It is almost a fine art in Goa. Few people in the village of Aldona thought they would be different ...and succeeded! It is a model that can be replicated, modified and improved on in each town and village. A year ago it was a lady whose house was blown off and needed to have a roof over her head again. A few persons came together and raised the money. The Parish Priest actively supported the initiative then as he has done now. One committee of volunteers building two houses by offering what they had as their core competence. One designed the house, the other got the construction material, a third supervised, a fourth put it on the Aldona net to raise contributions, a fourth made announcement in the village church and chapels, a fifth handled the painting and hundred of people put it their bit of time , expertise or money. The Panchayat and Govenment departments were cooperative. The house, built with love, has since been occupied. Look out for opportunities to help this Christmas season ... in your own locality. Help build up local initiatives, they can do big things. The Goa Bachao Abhiyan, the SEZ Virudhi Manch, the Keri Nagrik Samitee, The Sancoale Group, the People's Movement Against SEZ are all success stories of a few men, women and children coming together and bringing Government after Government and Businessman after businessman to its knees to keep the Goa the way we want it. We must also build up the initiatives like the one in Aldona. These initiatives also deserve the front page in the newspapers ...but will be lucky if they make page 7. Mog asundi. Miguel ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Rendeep Broad Band Cybercafe <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Date: Dec 11, 2007 8:15 PM Subject: [aldona-net] A Report It was a poignant scene touching the hearts of people around on 3rd December when the newly built house of Perpetua Fernandes and fly was blessed and inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Sertorio Rodrigues Parish Priest of Aldona . A Christmas gift for the poor family at Quitula , aldona built at a cost of [INR] Rs. 2,50,000 approx thanks to the donations and contributions of people mainly Aldonkars from all over the world. The house comprises of a balcony, sitting room, bedroom, bathroom dining room and kitchen standing high elegantly impressive and appreciated and admired by a large number of people who attended the inaugural ceremony. An appeal was made in the Church and Chapels by the Parish priest and on the Internet [Aldona Net] by Savio Figueiredo and donations kept puring in and many did not want their names to disclosed - a marvelous gesture in the present day world of egoism and selfishness. Much of the work was carried out at cost and voluntary service rendered by several people due to which helped restrict the expenses. A Committee under the Chairmanship of Rev. Fr Sertorio Rodrigues, Parish Priest of St. Thomas Church-Aldona and consisting of Mr. Freddy D'Souza, Blaise Cruz, Savio Figueiredo and Rosario Fernandes worked relentlessly and selflessly to bring the project to its successful completion. Plans, estimates and the construction work was carried out by Rosario Fernandes and his team of Umesh Marathe, Jatin Mondal, Gajanan Haldankar, Basavaraj. Electrical work was undertaken by Jose Dias, painting by Thomas Tavares. Substantial contribution cames from Mr. Shakoor Qadri who donated doors, windows and other materials. There was total help and co-operation from the Panchayat, Electricity Dept, Water Supply Dept for the smooth completion of this project. At the conclusion of the function the proud owner of this beautiful house could only express " a big thank you" to all, with a voice choked with emotion and eyes filled with tears. This is the second house built by the same voluntary Committee for poor deserving people of Aldona village within a year of initiation. Fr. Vicar complimented the people for their kind gesture and magnanimity Mr. Freddy gave a detailed report of the project and Mr. Savio Figueiredo, while expressing thanks to various donors and contributores, also expressed thanks to the family of Perpetua as it provided opportunity for the people to come forward generously to contribute and assist a worth cause.
