It was appalling and disgraceful to read the Governor's statement about
Goans having a negative mindset. On being over-sensitive about developmental
issues, I don't feel it particularly shameful to openly fight the shady
schemes our kleptocracy seems to thrive upon. And coupled with a
pseudo-secular opposition that only seems to raise its voice when the people
decide to pursue as issue, it is clear that even if we did have a negative
mindset, which we definitely don't, it would totally be justified. Despite
the very same snollygosters getting re-elected even after they have had
their turn in the gang-rape sequence, the fact that we still look forward
to betterment and real democracy is a mindset that would even make Norman
Vincent Peale proud. And moreover, I think in a democracy such as ours it's
a fundamental right of a citizen to publicly debate an issue concerning the
future of the state, and oppose it if it need be. Voice is a crucial
component of public reason, and if responsible officials refer to this
medium in a derogatory manner, it is a direct insult to our constitution and
whatever that great document stands for.
