Hi ED,

The 10 have been out of date for quite some time. However, they are
still taken to be the basis of a defined 'moral compass' by many on
this list today despite a few revisions.

Besides the first four that encourage worship of an imaginary deity on
a special day, for the most part the rest are no-brainers. Whoever
came up with them had a very limited imagination.

Killing, fornicating, stealing, lying and coveting asses are
universally abhorred, although that last one is under reconsideration
given that same-sex marriage is now legal in many 'civilized'
societies. But that doesn't tell us what is desirable behaviour to
attain the kingdom of heaven.

I was hoping to hear from the learned ones on this list is as to what
constitutes 'living a GOOD life'. For me, 'good' is 'moral' which in
turn relies on 'empathy'. When we are empathic about the situation of
another, we are in a position to behave morally. That creates a
'kingdom of heaven' here on earth where we no longer need to apply
rules or berate each other over caste, creed or race discriminations.

Sincerely,

Hi Kevin,
In reply to your question to Victor.
Let me tell you that the 10 Commandments were Jewish Laws to the
Jewish people, BEFORE ANY SORT OF GOVENMENT EXISTED. Religion was
Govt. in those days.
I mean 'any sort'; since democracy was introduced by the Greeks we
have laws to wear seat belts and not to seat children in the front
seat of the car.
Endless Laws to live a good and honest life, that includes not
chopping your hands off and be beheaded but going to prison as
punishment. This makes just the 10 out of date.
 ED.
