While strongly opposed to SEZs in Goa, I take strong exception to the warning
by some
politicians, for tourists to leave Goa by December 28. Granted, the patience
of Goans is wearing out as the politicians in power continue to play their
games. First it is Industrial Parks, then IT Parks, then SEZs, all with pie in
the sky promises to the poor people that they will get jobs. Personally I am
opposed to SEZs. However asking tourists to leave Goa is akin to cutting off
our nose to spite our face.
Many of our hard working Goenkar bhau are in tourist related businesses and
depend on these businesses such as hotels, restaurants, shacks etc. for their
daily livelihood. Why hurt them with this threat to tourists ?
Instead, I am sure there are a number of other ways to get our point across,
directly or indirectly to those who come up with these sordid schemes to enrich
themselves and
presumably the political parties that they belong to.
Down with SEZs but not on the backs of Aam aadmi.
