To Goanet,

Reference to the few posts on Goanet of late, discussing the possibility of
censoring certain members/views.

I concede that I'm pretty new to Goanet, but from what I gather about what
I've seen so far, is that this is an open and free forum for people to
connect on issues concerning Goa. The people who post here discuss a large
variety of topics, which implies that anything and everything is open for
(healthy) debate and discussion.

There are certain people in this forum whose views are initiating a
'stricter-moderation' drive. What I personally feel is, in order to
encourage free speech and wider participation, we have to resist the
temptation to go the way certain 'organizations' or 'sanghs' have gone;
where free speech is feared, disagreement is looked down upon, and most
importantly, entry is restricted only to those who share a similar
view-point. Let us be open-minded and tolerate even those whose opinions
conflict with our respective personal ones. At the same time, while we
encourage free speech, let us not fall short of challenging viewpoints,
opinions, and ideologies.

And let me reiterate here that many of the 'dangerous' views we see here are
those prevalent in society at large. So instead of snubbing them, let us, in
the spirit of democracy, try to understand why people follow the ideology
they do. And let us try to refrain from branding all BJP/Parrikar supporters
as 'fanatics' and the rest as 'Congress stooges and pucca idiots'. Everybody
believes what they do for a reason, and let's try to understanding and
tolerant
