KTC was never in profit NT Staff Reporter Panaji, Jan 27 Kadamba Transport Corporation (KTC) since its inception was never in profit and had been incurring losses to the tune of crores of rupees, revealed Mr Sanjay Goel, the managing director of Kadamba Transport Corporation. Speaking to 'The Navhind Times', the managing director stated that almost all the inter-state transport corporations in the country were running in loss except Bangalore Municipal Transport Corporation. On routes, especially Pernem-Panaji and Canacona-Margao, the number of passengers were less and sometimes, the KTC was forced to ply buses without any passengers for such a big distance, he noted and added besides this, nearly 70 per cent of the schedules were uneconomical but social in nature and KTC had to provide 100 per cent concession to the disabled, and 50 per cent concession to senior citizens and students. Even the stalls did not fetch much revenue to the KTC as most of the shops and establishments were allotted under various welfare schemes, he said and disclosed that KTC had to pay crores of rupees by way of ESI, Provident Fund and others. "KTC would be plying extra buses on shuttle service routes of Panaji, Vasco and Margao within a few days time. No doubt there is lot of demand for buses on inter-state routes but there are limited buses with us on Belgaum, Bangalore, Pune and other routes. In order to tide over this rush, KTC would be focusing on ordinary and semi-luxury buses," he informed. About Volvo buses, Mr Goel said the KTC had two buses and both of them were generating good revenue for the firm and were plying on Shirdi-Pune route. "KTC has a fleet of 392 buses. Generally around 320 are on the road while 20-25 remain under repair, for breakdown, maintenance or for other technical reasons at any point of time," he concluded.
