The Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) organised an educative workshop on the topic 
'How  to write a Novel' in Konknni at the Institute Menezes Braganza Hall on 
20th April 2008. Shri N. Shivdas, noted literary figure and novelist, winner of 
the Sahitya Akademi Award, was the  Resource person at the workshop. 
Bonaventure D' Pietro another noted Konknni novelist, together with Tomazinho 
Cardozo also shared their experiences with the participants at the workshop.
   
  Shri N. Shivdas, spoke at length on the finer aspects of novel writing right 
from the initial step of conceptualizing the plot, to selecting the locale and 
writing the story. He provided valuable inputs and hints to the budding writers 
as well as other senior writers who were present at the workshop and are yet to 
venture into novel writing. He spelt out the various aspects of novel writing 
thereby making novel writing seem to be an easy task to the young writers. Shri 
Shivdas' enlightening talk was received with rapt attention and thereafter the 
participants present at the workshop had an interactive session with the 
resource person. Shri N. Shivdas, responded very encouragingly to the varied 
questions posed by the enthusiastic participants.   
   
  Shri Tomazinho Cardozo also dwelt at length on the  origin of novel writing 
at the international level a well as  on the publishing of  the first novel in 
Konknni.  He spoke on the various topics that a novel can be written on like, 
romance, social, political,  cultural,  religious, historic etc., And he called 
upon the young writers present at the workshop to take up the challenge of 
writing a full length novel on a political subject.  'With a little research, 
one can find ample matter in the Goan political arena to write an interesting 
novel' he concluded.
   
  Shri Bonaventure D' Pietro,  who has written many novels in Konknni 
literature and whose Konknni novel Tichea Mornna Uprant was recently 
transliterated into Kannada script spoke briefly about the experiences 
encountered during his tenure as a writer. 
   
  Earlier Shri Premanand Lotliker, President of DKA, welcomed the participants, 
and informed that the Akademi is doing all out efforts to encourage young 
writers to write in Roman script Konknni. He announced  that " DKA  has 
declared open a Konknni novel writing competition specially for young Konknni 
writers. 
  Compulsorily written in Konknni Romi script, the manuscript should be typed 
on A4 size paper (single  side)  and it should be of minimum  50 pages. The 
best two novels will be awarded Rs.15,000/- and 10,000/- respectively. The last 
date of submitting the script is 25th October, 2008."

  DKA Secretary, Shri Jose  Salvador Fernandes,conducted the proceedings at the 
workshop. The response at the workshop was very encouraging with around 38 
senior as well as budding writers and Konknni lovers attending the workshop 
which included  tiatrists as well. Certificates were issued by the DKA to all 
the participants at the workshop.
