Demands that Navy furnishes land documents on Dabolim Airport

PANJIM, MAY 12 - Claiming that the Navy is holding an illegal possession of land at Dabolim airport, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik today said that the land in possession needs to be reviewed.

Mr Naik addressing the press, insisted that recording of the land in possession of Navy at Dabolim should be reviewed and they be asked to furnish the documents in this regard.

"If it is found that navy did not possess any title deeds with respect to the land it should be reverted in the survey records in the name of Goa government, who in turn may give adequate land to navy on lease basis," he said.

"It was unfair on the part of Navy to create hurdles in granting the land for the construction of civil airport when the land never belonged to them," he said adding "they are literally making the State and the Airport Authority bag for the land".

"As per my memory and knowledge the land never belonged to them even during the military Governor's Rule from 1961 to 1963 in the State," he said.

Speaking about the Mopa airport, he said the draft report on the proposed airport in North Goa is ready and will be sent for the approval of the committee, constituted by Civil Aviation Ministry soon.

Mr Naik stated that the draft report prepared by the member secretary of the committee constituted by the Union Civil Aviation Ministry, at the instance of Prime Minister, is ready and the same will be placed before the committee for approval soon.
