What Russell failed to take into account is that such
a teapot, once conceived, exists in his mind as well
as the minds of his readers. Any mental representation
has a physical form in the brain. It determines
subsequent behavior. That is why no one can ignore it.

What is true, however, is that some mental
representations, such as those of the teapot and other
supernatural entities, do not have an observable
existence outside of the brain. They do not exist as
independent "facts in the world", as Cardinal Murphy
O'Connor might say.
