Hi Jason,
The entire Tanzanian ladies hockey team would have been made up of Goans. I
only remember seeing the Tanzanian ladies play one international match.

In the late sixties, early seventies, a Goan lady from Uganda married a
Tanzanian goal keeper, Ludger Gomes. She played for Uganda ( I cant remember
her name right now) but was the best lady hockey player I have seen ever. She
was so fast that she could dodge players from the men's team with whom she
practised. Her brother is a  referee and runs the men's hockey tournaments in
Toronto today.

My favourite ladies hockey player is my former neighbour, Ina Rebello. She
introduced me to the game and played for the Goan clubs in Dar before playing
for India in several world cups. She now lives in Mumbai.

Subject: [Goanet] Any info on International Women Hockey Players of Goan Origin

Hi Goanetters,

Eugene Correia asked me a question and that set me off on the path of some
research. Any one out there who can throw some light on any International Women
Hockey Players of Goan Origin who have represented India or their respective
countries in international hockey tournaments ..

The most famous names that come to mind are that of Dr Otilia Mascarenhas,
Lorraine Fernandes and Selma D'Silva.

Sybil Miranda (was she a D'Mello before?), Elvira Britto, Donita D'Mello, Fiona
Albuquerque, Angela D'Sa have played for India, but i am not too sure if they
have Goan roots.

Any idea if Erminda Menezes (daughter of Sacru Menezes) played for India?

I know there have been loads of Goan who have played  for India. What about
other countries?

Any information will be much appreciated.

Jason
