Hema Sardessai, the famous singer, on Monday evening threatened to go on a
fast unto death if her demand for special status to Goa was not met, and
said that in case she was killed to silence her then everybody would know
whom to blame. She demanded special status for Goa whereby land can only be
sold to locals. She sought an acunbendable law wherein there would be
absolutely no conversion of Goan hills, fields and beach land into
settlement zones. She also wanted all migrant labour stopped from voting in
the state and setting up of transit camp for them so as to stop promotion of
slums and vote banks.Hema is the only Indian singer to win the grand prix at
the 16th International Pop Song Festival in Germany and the only female
singer other than Lata Mangeshkar to perform at the 50th Independence Day
celebrations. Another of her demands was that gram sabhas be empowered to
take decisions on land selling and keeping vigil on land sharks,
topographical destruction and selling of communidade land by the government.
I, request our Goan brothers and sisters to kindly support her in every
possible manner and keep the fight continue till the very end. Do not vote
to all the 40 thieves whom you'll have already chosen earlier for Goa
Assembly in future. Choose only those leaders who can give a honest fight
for Goan.
