Ayres, Over the past few days, I have read that the Supreme Court and the CBI, have been going after Mayawati's assets. But some might call it political vendetta, for her not supporting the present Government. The CBI itself has been used by the ruling parties to prosecute its opponents. It is not that the politicians in the rest of the world are any less corrupt, but in India it is 'institutionalized corruption', that affects the common man. If there is an impartial investigation into the assets of Goan politicians, hardly any of them will be able to account for all that they have accumulated. In the 1980s, I remember that most of them, used to be teachers, lawyers -- and now these very guys specify their occupations as Business/Businessman/Agriculturist. All of them have cars and bungalows! One cannot achieve all that with the salary of an MLA! Such a drastic transformation in one's fortunes cannot happen without rampant corruption. Of course, the selling of Goa is the most common topic of discussion on this forum. How many Goans with just the salary of an MLA can afford cars and bungalows?Naguesh Naguesh Bhatcar
