When I opened-up today's Herald and the Navhind Times, Mauvin Godinho fell
out on my lap, courtesy Prof. M.S. Kamat. If it was not the name of Prof.
M.S. Kamat, which literally bored a hole into my eyes, I would have used
this supplement of the Navhind Times and the spread on Herald as the toilet
paper with immediate effect. But not knowing if there could be another Prof.
M.S. Kamat who would suck up to Mauvin Godinho, I made it a point to go
through the entire write-up.
I have just called up Prof. M.S. Kamat at his Porvorim residence (0832)
2411291 and this was the exchange.
Hello, Prof. Kamat? ..... Good evening Sir, I am Floriano Lobo. How are you?
Fine Mr. Lobo, and you?
Fine sir. Why I am calling is because today's Herald and NT has a supplement
on Mauvin Godinho and it is written by Prof. M.S. Kamat. Is that you sir?
Yes Yes. It is me.
"Well sir, if you don't mind, I think you have sung praises of a rotten to
the core 'CHOR' who has undermined Goa. And I had much respect for you. And
that is why I had gone against all odds to have you as the moderator of the
Citizens' [Of Goa] Initiative despite there being heavy reservations from
most law abiding citizens on my choice since you were on the Board of
Directors of a Chor Company lead by another CHOR, Narvekar."
(The only response I was getting from Prof. Kamat was Yes, yes and yes)
Well sir, I find it difficult to understand how you educated and enlightened
people can stoop so low as to fall at the feet of these chors. Isn't Mauvin
supposed to be looking at the welfare of the people of Goa as a Legislator
rather than polishing his Cortalim Constituency? And you shamelessly write
about it?"
"Well sir, If you have any self respect you will consider about you
continuing on the BOD of the Infotech Corporation of Goa."

My million apologies to Sam, Jose Colaco, Miguel Braganza et al who were
worried about Professor M.S. Kamat having been chosen by Floriano Lobo. And
Miguel was right in suggesting other names of which Mr. Ajit Shirodkar could
have been the man for the first of its kind 'CI' .
Even then, as a slim justification for my going thro' with my original
decision, I went by the fact that 'moderating' an academic debate had
nothing to do with the character of a person, especially when the decision
had been taken and public announcements made. Now I know better.
And we say that Goa is being looted by our politicians. Nay. We must now say
that Goa has been allowed to be looted by people who pose as high principled
guardians of our society, whether they are inside or outside the walls of
religious institutions, but who are either rotten to the core or have a
back-bone made of jelly who will only look for their continuation in service
rather than retaliate as a principle of justice.
I do hope that I shall be FORGIVEN in respect of having M.S. Kamat moderate
the CI debate.
