I'm the mother of a daughter and unfortunately I opened up on a picture that
bears the charred remains of a little girl. Can any mother bear to see such
pictures? This innocent child, who through no fault of her own, bears
unfortunate testimony to the inhumanity of mankind, the lawless jungle that
India is increasingly becoming.

I hope the mother of this child has not survived. No mother can bear to live
through these images and reclaim any sort of life for herself. And for the
world's sake, I hope there is a God somewhere, although my faith in him
dissipated a long time ago.

As Christians, my community will go on a fast, talk about turning the other
cheek, and becoming martyrs. For an agnostic like me, these are further
humiliations in our misplaced belief in some sort of divine justice. They are
nothing but expressions of our hopelessness, in a country where the polity and
the judiciary are spineless and indifferent. We are a forsaken community.
Sentenced to second-class citizenship in our own country.

There are some on this forum, who have the impertinence to talk about the
history or the cause of communalism. What cares? Who cares, when Indian's
children are lying in the streets. What can a mother do? Kiss her own child and
hope that she doesn't become the victim of someone else's bigotry and utter
lack of a conscience. Thank each day I have with my child, who know what
tomorrow will rob me off?
