Oh yes, wee Bernice, whyskey (B&W, Queen Anne, WH used to be the most served)
flowed quite freely, so did the other two popular ones: Macieira & Constatino; 
but not 
served around the assemblage, at the adega, set up in one of the smallar rooms 
or the 
verandah.
 
The trays circulating the throng used to be apperitif (vermouth) claret 
(tinto), the burgundy 
type red (v da missa), white (granjó) and sweet like moscatel.
 
Toast time it was champagne. Although it was just the one round, adequate 
number of proper
champagne glasses (taças) were rented in. Only the huge mansions had the 
required number 
inhouse.
 
When chaps like noble, long departed Raúl, filinto, I were guests at same 
function we 
used to be the champion clients at the respective adega.
 
Know where I have been yesterday? To the Whisky, Calvados & Beer festival of 
Sweden,
the largest of its kind held annually in Stockholm: Must have inbibed over a 
full liter but not
a drop below Blue Label & other rarest of scotches
