Abu Dhabi September 20, 2008:

The Konkani community of Abu Dhabi  will be holding a protest meet to condemn
the attack by the radical groups on catholics in Mangalore and different parts
of India at St. Josephs Church Abu Dhabi tomorrow September 20th 2008 inside
its premises. This was announced during the Konkani Mass today in the main
parish hall.

The Konkani prayer group members had organized a fellowship meal for the
gathering to commemorate the feast of nativity of BVM today, but cancelled this
event due to the communal violence in Mangalore and other parts of India.
Instead they held an adoration ceremony before the Holy Sacrament soon after
the Konkani mass, to pray for all those who suffered persecution and expressed
their solidarity for their brothers and sisters back in their hometown
Mangalore and various part in India.

Fr. Antony Lopez  Spirutal Director  of the Konkani Community, said that the
entire Indian community rejoices   when someone wins a gold medal in Olympics
but then it is sad to note the atrocities and suffering of the people in our
community. He then told the gathering that Jesus Christ came into this world to
give life and not to destroy it. Similarly, he urged the gathering to pray for
all those who persecute, fight and destroy the peace and harmony in the land so
that they might experience love and walk in the light.
