Teachers Training Workshop held at Cuncolim.

Goa Sudharop Community Development Inc. USA in association with Rotary Club of 
Cuncolim, organized a day’s teachers training workshop “Effective Discipline in 
Schools” for South Goa school teachers on   25th September, 2008 at Cuncolim.

Goa Sudharop is observing 2008 as “Year of Education” in Goa, and in line with 
this theme Goa Sudharop has chosen to specially focus on training and 
empowerment of school teachers. Hence, this workshop, which is one of the many 
such types of educational programmes being conducted by Goa Sudharop this year.

The topics at the workshop were: Case discussions; handling behaviour problems 
in school children; classroom management skills – creating an atmosphere of 
mutual caring and respect;  building co-operation in the class room and 
discipline policies for schools. About 40 teachers from different schools in 
South Goa participated in the workshop, and each teacher was presented with a 
participation certificate. The resource person was Dr. Nandita de Souza of 
Sethu Centre for Child Development & Family Guidance, Panjim.

The Chief Guest, Mrs. Sylvia D’ Souza, Asstt. Director of Education, 
inaugurated the workshop by lighting the traditional lamp, and addressed the 
participants stressing the importance of training of teachers and the key role 
they played in educating and moulding the young ones. The gathering was 
welcomed by Rtn. Bhicu Dessai. Mr. Ibonio D’Souza, the local representative of 
Goa Sudharop addressed the gathering explaining the purpose of the workshop, as 
also detailing the other educational programmes of Goa Sudharop planned in this 
theme year. 

The Chief Guest at the concluding session of the workshop was Rtn. Prof. Uday 
Ballikar, recipient of the prestigious Presidential Award for Best Teacher, 
this year, who was introduced to the gathering by Rtn. Bhicu Dessai. Prof 
Ballikar addressed the participants and also presented Certificates of 
Participation to each of the participants, along with Dr. Nandita de Souza and 
Goa Sudharop representative, Ibonio D’Souza. The programme was compered by Goa 
Sudharop volunteer, Mrs. Melinda Powell.  The workshop came to an end with a 
Vote of Thanks by Ibonio D’Souza of Goa Sudharop.
