Hartman,
"the more prominent of our 'activists', very much like the politicians and
moneybags they decry, are no less 'ambitious'."

There is nothing wrong to be ambitious. In fact ambition is the driving force
of our humanity.

"ambition itself, though not overtly a 'corrupting' force, can also make one
choose personal safety, peace of mind and relative comfort over the dangers
often posed by confrontation with the establishmen."

I agree with this cord, this is the crux of the matter. In fact corrupt
indivituals usually after ambitious activist. They will always remain beside
him but passing the information to the where it has value....

"Goa Foundation, a non-profit with a stellar record of
combating the destructiveness brought about by mining (30 years at least to
regenerate the environment in their own words), now taking the line that
mining in fact, can be regulated if brought under central control"

"They cannot stay on the sidelines, as if they were watching a
play. If they do that, whatever public support they hope to get will never
come."

Goa Foundation might have learn the danger of unemplyment that may errupt, may
have thought of playing safe, Instead of full closure of mines. Nothing wrong
in that.
But either central or state control mining should be brouhgt to hold may be by
another two decades.

I remembers the words used by our economic Professor Acharya at Dempo College
that Goa Govt. must find alternate source of income as there will be no income
from mining after 1990.
