There is a quaint custom among Goan Catholics with regards to 'sweets'
in a family that is mourning. If there has been a recent death the
family does not prepare or buy sweets for Christmas. The neighbours,
even those who would not normally send over Christmas sweets, will
send in extra sweets to allow the family to enjoy sweets without
actually preparing or buying themselves.

Is there any single Konkani word for this custom?
Is there an equivalent in other cultures?

Cheers!

Cecil
