Duo from Delhi flies down to rob PANAJI: Quick action by residents of a housing colony in Caranzalem has exposed a house burglary racket, involving "sophisticated" thieves who arrive in the state by flight, stay in decent hotels and pretend to be businessmen.
Panaji police on Monday arrested two persons-Rashid Rahoof and Kashif Ali-from Uttar Pradesh for breaking into a house in Tonca, Caranzalem intending to commit a theft. Police sources said the duo, in their early thirties, had arrived in Goa on Sunday by air from New Delhi at 2.30 pm and were staying in an AC room in a city hotel. "They had even submitted their documents to the hotel for purposes of identification and posed as businessmen," said police sources. Police sources said that, Priti Lawande in her complaint said she had come home at 1 pm and when she tried to open the lock, found that the door had been locked from inside. Looking through the peephole she saw the shadow of a person and latched the door from outside. Realizing that somebody was at the door, the person inside unlocked it and thinking it could have been her husband, Lawande pushed it open, police said. The instant she opened the door, a fair complexioned person ran out, while another wheatish complexioned person made an attempt to escape. The complainant, however, caught him from behind, police sources said. "He then hit her on the face with a plastic bag, which contained a hard object and ran away. She ran behind and shouted for help and people in the neighbourhood caught the two persons," said PSI N Chimulkar. Lawande said that the duo had stolen a few shirts worth Rs 1,500. Police sources said that on searching the duo, they found cash on them. Following complaints by others, police learnt that the duo had committed a theft at Models St Inez, where they stole two watches worth Rs 2,000 from the house of Deepak Shetye. Later the duo went to Kamat Classic in Caranzalem where they entered the flat of George Rebello and stole cash Rs 2,500, a watch worth Rs 3,000 and a pair of cufflinks. The duo told the cops they had never been to Panaji before and had decided to rob some houses as it being the capital city they would get more money. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/Goa/Duo_from_Delhi_flies_down_to_rob_ /articleshow/4103131.cms ~(^^)~ Avelino
