Ever since I expanded my study of 'Picnic Songs of Catholic Goans' to include bawdy songs by other religious communities and regions along the Konkan, I have come across many folk songs that bear an eerie similarity to Goan Konkani folks songs.
For example check out this link: http://www.east-indians.com/eisongs.htm East Indian folk songs in Marathi. Don't expect much variation from the standard beat - they're East Indian after all! But check how the rhythms and themes closely approximate aboriginal Goan Konkani folk songs. I wonder if any authentic research has been done in this area of folk music of the Konkan. Cheers!
