Inaugural of the N.S.S. Unit at St. Xavier's College
The N.S.S. unit of St. Xavier's College, Mapsua, Goa, was inaugurated on the 8th of July, 2009, by the Chief Guest of the function, Sr. Mary Jane Pinto, the Co-ordinator of the Prison Ministry of Goa by lighting the traditional lamp. The theme for the inaugural was "EMPOWERING YOUTH FOR SOCIAL TRANSFORMATION." The Principal, Dr. (Fr.) Walter de Sá welcomed one and all and urged the students and the NSS officers to strive towards the betterment of society and keep up the good work. Ms. Ana Andrade e Sousa - The Chief N.S.S. Programme Officer spoke on the importance of service to others in a fast paced world. The Chief Guest, Sr. Mary Jane Pinto, made the gathering aware of the difficulties and trauma that inmates undergo. She stressed on the concept of 'Tyaag' and 'Seva'. Sr. Pinto shared with us her joys and purpose in life - To serve humanity. The cultural programme followed thereafter. The items focused on the message of Service, Dignity of Labour, Protection of the Ecology and Universal brotherhood. The programme ended with the vote of thanks by Ms. Lydia Pereira. The students and teachers pledged to be true to the N.S.S. Moto 'NOT ME BUT YOU' by singing the N.S.S. Anthem. The programme was attended by the N.S.S. Programme Officers, Ms. Annie Fernandes, Ms. Eweny Fernandes, Mr. Caje Pinto, Mr. Aaron Paul, Mr. Carmelito D'Souza and over 500 N.S.S. Volunteers. Dr. (Fr.)
