A long tradition, Goa priests spent eight weeks in US parishes, filling in for
natives on vaction. Short term visas were easily arranged. That situation has
changed on account of falling revenues, and parishes now cope without the extra
help.

Mario responds:

Not in the midwest. In the Detroit area there are four Parish Priests who are
Indian, and there are several who are associate pastors all over the midwest.
All the ones I know are on multi-year visas and were sponsored by local
dioceses.

A priest in Goa asked me for a letter of guarantee, and that should have raised
a yellow signal: It turns out he did not have a job offer, and prospects of
landing one are dim.

He now "informs" me that a full subsidy of his travel costs and visa fees would
greatly extend an old friendship. Buyer beware, I suppose.???

Mario responds:

I think he was just looking for a "bakra":-))
