Joe, that is not erosion - rather, it is a build-up of sand on the beach, which
has been blown inland by the strong monsoonal winds.  I would say that the
force of the river has dimnished on Panjim side, and probably the opposide side
(Verem?) will suffer erosion. As the force of the river-flow has diminished due
to building piers further upriver (Panjim jetty) or other causes, over the
years the Mandovi river has deposited a lot of sand on Panjim side and the
water flow seems to have moved more towards Betim.

My father told me, when we used to walk alongside the pleasant avenue in
Campal, that when he lived in Campal in the 1920s, the waves used to beat
against the balustrade where the cannon/lighthouse were. Now, there has been a
build-up of sand so much so that now there is a Childrens' Park and Kala
Academy buildings, the Campal Ground etc where apparently the river once used
to flow.

Subject: [Goanet] Talking Photos: Vanishing footpath due to sand erosion?

One could not walk into the Miramar beach without the use of the steps provided
near Goa Tourism Compound wall and towards St. Anthony cross/shrine (unless you
are  good at high-jumping)

But now, one can walk into the beach almost straight from your car or the road.

The  footpath is now almost leveled with the beach covering sand for up to
1 meter in height.

Don’t know whatever happened to the CCP project initiated some two year
ago by bamboo fencing the beach to arrest sand erosion etc. (see clip)
