GARBAGE PLANT GENERATES 'HEAT' AT ANJUNA MEET Herald Correspondent Calangute AUG 31 The Anjuna gram sabha on Sunday witnessed heated discussions over the proposed garbage treatment plant at Gaumvaddy-Anjuna. After deliberation on the issue, Sarpanch Sandip Chimulkar promised to scrap the proposed site of the garbage plant. Satyawan Harmalkar raised the issue of poor quality developmental works and the panchayat's failure to complete the works. There were heated arguments between the gram sabha members and the panchayat members. Pradeep Harmalkar asked the sarpanch if the supervisory committee was formed to oversee the works, but Chimulkar replied in the negative. The gram sabha members then proposed for the formation of the supervisory committee, which was not acceptable to the sarpanch. Raising the issue of permission to hotels to erect sign/advertisement boards, Hanumant Lingudkar sought to know the status of it. The sarpanch replied in the negative and promised removal of it. Few gram sabha members regretted that the sarpanch did not entertain their proposals on grounds of delayed submission and complained of unfair means at the gram sabha proceedings. Earlier, Panchayat Secretary Krishnakant Govekar read the minutes of the previous meeting while Sandip Chimulkar welcomed the gram sabha members for the meeting. ************************ MY COMMENTS: The Gaumvaddy residents are determined to deny the Anjuna-Caisua Panchayat the use of our hill as a dumping ground for garbage. The chosen site is (approx) 500 meters away from Venerable Fr. Agnelo's birth place. Moi-mogan, Domnic Fernandes Anjuna, Goa Mob: 9420979201
