My response was that Goa only "seemed" like a Christian dominated area

Goan Hindus as a generality.

Why blame the Portuguese? They did not invade Goa.....

Mario responds:

When I read stuff like this I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Please stop this 'Portuguese Invaded Goa' rethoric. Through
them they brought the press, literacy and modern medicine and so many other
goodies.

Mario responds:

Oh, I see. MD doesn't know what "invaded" means.

Hey, MD, did you also know that Hitler and Mussolini made the trains run on
time and Saddam was very good to the Sunnis in Iraq. According to you, that
would make them great humanitarians, just like the Portuguese.

Unfortunately for your fantasy world, literacy and Ayurvedic medicine and other
"goodies" existed in India when the Portuguese were still running around
barefoot in kashties, living in thatched huts and bathing once a year at
Christmas time:-)) Phew!

It was India that was Alexander the Great's Waterloo, and he returned home a
broken man.

Things would have been much better, but sadly they were curtailed due to nearly
a century of occupation of Portugal by Spain.

Mario responds:

Oh, I see. According to your history book, the Spanish occupied neighboring
Portugal, but the Portuguese did not occupy Goa, half way around the world. I
suppose they were invited to come and colonize Goa by the Brahmin bhatcars who
wanted to become Christians and who had a taste for Portuguese boots:-))

Wise up, man. The era of colonialism and European domination is long gone.
All the old colonial Europeans are struggling now and will soon be completely
overshadowed by the brown-skinned world and other Asians. They never recovered
from being unable to steal the natural resources of their colonies and then
forcing the colonies to buy their goods.

Until the Portuguese were kicked out Goa was like the lost world, a couple of
generations behind the rest of india in infrastructure and other civilized
systems, which were then brought up-to-date when Goa was a Union Territory.
Then it was turned over to the Goans in 1987. If the Goans had elected honest
politicians it could have been a showpiece.

It still can be if they stop wasting their time dreaming of days gone by.
