Are remittances of expats to be seen as something unquestionably positive, negative or a mixed blessing?
Given that the extra money pouring into Goa leads to conspicuous consumption, a disinclination to earn one's own livelihood, fuells real-estate boom, contributes to inflation and making Goa one of the costliest non-metros (and even compared to the metros!) in India, and acts as a magnet for in-migration which we all lambast, isn't it time that we reassessed this issue?
