Hi all, I was in a hurry last night when I wrote the post. I want to add that the site mentioned gives a listing down to the village the Goan came from and their next of kin which was usually a wife. British Historical-geographer of Goan origin, Cliff Pereira, has painstakingly carried out research and gathered information on more than 600 sailors who lost their lives during World War II, an inordinately high figure for a small place like Goa. I too have gathered a few names and done some research into the War Years for Goa. It is often assumed that Goans did not risk their lives during World War II, because of Portugal's neutrality. That is not true. Besides sailors there were Goans who joined the British Army in East Africa and risked their lives. However, no war memorial rests for these individuals neither in Goa nor anywhere else in India.
