Dear Friend, When you think of Goa, what comes to your mind ... SEA, SAND and SIN ??? or heritage monuments, churches and temples or the ubiquitous fish-curry-and-rice and feni ???
In all this grand cacophony of brand Goa mostly created for tourism, the common Goan has somewhere been buried under the silver sands of time we so proudly flaunt on our beaches. 10 photographers, 10 locations, 10 hours, 1000 portraits and 1000 smiles ... That's the 1000 SMILES project in Goa, that will kick off on 12 December 2009 at 8:00 AM until 6:00 PM. To show to the world that Goa is about Goans. Started in London, UK earlier this year by two relentless photographers... in their own words... "Our project is a true portrait of Britain created by photographing 1,000 people. We stopped everyone who crossed our path on the streets of London, excluding nobody, asking the same question more than fifteen hundred times. In a moment where recession is the main subject of every discussion, it was striking to come across such positive attitude. This is the true face of Britain." This project then went on to Barcelona-Spain and Hyderabad-India (Sept 2009) and for the fourth time in Goa this Dec. The following link is of the Hyderabad project, it will give you a better idea. http://abhiomkar.in/ So what you wonderful Goan people have to do ??? Come out in full strength on 12 Dec in your Sunday best ;-) at any of the 30 spots, these will be published in all the local Goan newspapers 2-3 days before the event. Besides announcements will also be on air (Radio Mirchi-Goa) If you have a special talent like playing an instrument or a sport carry your paraphernalia like a guitar or a football, that will add spice to your pix, we want to capture native Goans doing their thing. When you get yourself photographed from our photographers, you will have to sign a release form, giving your consent, we in turn ensure you that your photograph will not be used for pornography or any other illegal activity (the SP of Goa Mr. Atmaram Deshpande brought this event to Goa, so you have nothing to fear from that angle !!) There will a grand exhibition on Goa Liberation Day (19th Dec) at the ESG Art Gallery, Panjim where you can come view the 1000 smiles of Goa. Expecting overwhelming co-operation for all you beautiful people. regards, Archana P.S. I am stationed at Calangute (yes i am one of the 10 photographers!), so it would be nice if you could come, support me in Calangute. And bring as many people with you as possible..more the merrier!! --------------------------------------------------- Read all Goanet messages at: http://lists.goanet.org/pipermail/goanet-goanet.org/ ---------------------------------------------------
