Respect For All Religions And Places Of Worship, A Must
As per the article on Herald, Eagle Chariot inaugurated, 14th Dec'09. Early this week an Eagle Chariot (Rath) was inaugurated with pomp and festivities in the presence of a host of dignitaries including our PWD minister, who was the guest of honour at this auspicious occasion, at the Khola village. The magnificent "Rath" was donated by none other than the famous lawyer cum real estate agent Mr Prakash Prabhudessai and his wife Padma from Molorem, Khola, now a resident of Margao, who are also very close to the Alemao family and it was actually Mr. Prakash Prabhudessai who had sheltered Mr. Alemao when there was a warrant against him, from the centre during the infamous flag burning case. Since then they have been buddies for a long time. Mr. Alemao and the former advocate general Manohar Usgaonkar spoke of respect for all religions and the works of God through the noble deeds of men, very inspiring thoughts to reflect on. Prakash Prabhudessai and his two brothers own huge amount of land, in the village of Khola, acquired by their late father. It so happens that in one of their properties lies a Chapel in the Nuem ward of Khola village, at the mouth of the Arabian sea, whatever said and done, as to the ways and means used by the father, to flourish from a mere grocery owner to a multi million dollar estate owner, their father had a great regard for the Mother of Sorrows, to whom this Chapel is dedicated. With his permission the new Chapel, at the same spot, was built by our elders in the late sixty's, he had also donated a piece of land for the local cemetery free of cost. The residents of the village are ever grateful for his generosity. Since the death of the father, a decade ago, things have changed, the reverence for this Chapel is lost in the family and infact, evil intent has crept in. This particular Chapel is surrounded by tall, old coconut trees, which cause a lot of harm to the roof of the Chapel, it's embracing to note holes in the roof more often than not, and during rainy season pools of water on the floor of this holy place, despite the net tied to the coconut trees over the roof, a couple of years back the roof and the side wall was damaged badly, when one of the several trees broke and fell on it, despite a good number of visits and meetings with the sons and the mother, no good has come to it. The villagers are ready to pay for the trees, as well as buy the property around the Chapel but all seems to fall on deaf ears. Of late the village and the villagers too have been victims of this family, who have been actively supporting mining activities and the sale of cumunidade land to outsiders despite the objections of the locals. I sincerely hope, the words spoken at the function make inroads into the heart of Mr. Prakash Prabhudessai and his family and enlighten them to show respect for the Chapel and the very village, that is responsible in making them, what they are today.
