Doc,
You touch on an extremely sensitive topic here.
Goan families, including mine, were doing really well in Zanzibar prior to the
revolution.

There are people here who lost their loved ones on the first few days of the
revolution.
As you can imagine, 46 years later, some of those who lost their siblings are
still
inconsolable. The luckier ones just lost their homes and property and started
to move
back to Goa or to the western world. Others would not be moved.

For those unaware of it, the elections in Zanzibar just prior to the revolution
have gone down
in the Guinness Book of World Records as the narrowest elections ever. Just one
vote
made the difference between which party got one seat extra and formed the govt
in a
forty seat parliament.

The person in charge of the deciding voter station that double counted the
votes, brought officials
from both parties together, displayed the spoilt votes, explained the rules and
declared
the winner? A Goan. A relative. One of the nicest people in the world, now
living in Toronto.
