This is my welcome speech infront of prominent Goan people. FREEDOM FROM TRAP , 12/02/2010 Hari Om, I am very happy to welcome you all here on behalf of The International Centre Goa and Chess Activity Centre for this Prize distribution function. I am hounored specially to welcome Former Law Secretary of Goa Mrs. Anuja Prabhdesai as our Chief Guest of this function and request Noted Environmentalist, Historian and Social Worker and Shri Rajendra Kerkar to priside over the function. I request Mrs.Nandini Sahai Director The Internatioanal Centre Goa. will escort the guest to the dais. Chess Activity Centre started functioning from last year. We organised “Chess for Everyone” activity every Friday evening from 4 to 7. It includes demonstration, learning, playing and watching films related to chess. Today in “Chess for Everyone” started with some demonstration on chess board to all of us. Children participated in this event. Our young coach Shravan Barve has explained few ways and tricks to free trapped pieces on chess board. There after Lightning Chess Tournament for above 25 years was held. Chess is an Indiangame but we ‘Chess Activity Centre’ look it as learning tool. It teaches reasoning and develops decisions making abilities. Just like every Goan should know to read and write, our dream is every goan should know chess. You all must be aware that since 2006 Goan children started winning medals in chess at National and International level in various age group categories. Thanks to Shri Sameer Salgaokar and Dempos, Moginis and Dr. Peter Carvalho lot of hardwork by parents and individual chess coaches. Compered to other sports Goan children have done exceptionally well only in chess. In 2009-10 Total number of National or International Medals won by Goan children in all Sports are 28. Out of these 50%, that is 14 medals are won in Chess. Still Goahas long way to go. There are about 100 International Masters (Rating 2300+) and 17 Grand Masters (Rating 2500+) in India. It will take many more years for a Goan to be an International Masters. We can see bright sparks in chess where ever we go in Goa. However no proper grooming and lack of opportunities keep this bright sparks away from Chess. Lack of vision, planning and implementation abilities among authorities controlling chess in Goa. And because of this Parents of this bright spark has to suffer a lot. Few kids who won chess campionship in open category has stayed away from chess. Its very sad story. Promotion of chess has to be done in two ways. 1. Chess activities should be spread all over Goa, in every Primary School; it should be part of School curriculum. Chess tournaments should be held at every nook and corner. 2. Grooming of Bright talent. With your generous support, our plan for future is as follows; 1. To Scolorship of Rs. 1000/- per month for a year for bright talent in chess (around 10) by this year end. 2. To Organise chess coaching for beginners (We do this regularly.) 3. To Organise IM/GM level chess coaching. First of these will be in coming April for 10 days. 4. To Organise short group (selected few) higher level chess tournament. 5. Chess tournament for different categories. 6. Emphasis on chess as learning tool [javaad/ana vaat/ SaoWapaak/ saopae, k/aL/Kaaqa Ad/KaLU/k/ jaaqaa. pauNa jai saqyaacae k/asa Gatt/ War/qaa qaica laKalaKaqai @h/r/i Aasaqaaqa. jai Aamak/a maaga$w/Sa$k/ Aasaqaaqa, Aamak/a vaat/ calayaqaa, [maiw/ jaagae w/var/qaa, pa#ir/Naa w/eqaa. h/ava par/qaUna ]k/w/a Aayajacai Aamacai mauKola paavaNo Aanae Aamaco po#r/Naa s>aoqa Baomaanaesqa Anaujaa pa#Bauw/isaaya Aanae baaba r/ajainw#/ ki/r/k/r/aMcai svaagaqa k/r/qaa Aanae mh/ajae h/e caar/ [qar/a saopayaqaa.
