Panjim Carnival 2010 -Floats As usual the parade started 4pm instead of 3pm. Traditionally, Goan Traditional brass band was leading the King Momo’s entourage but this year it was different – a band group by foreigners (Swiss?). The music they played was not suited for this traditional events. see in the bgening of this clip http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vi-75L-UVvc
Whatever, it is, we did not like it to see them leading the Panjim Parade. It’s all sounding off. Their music did not suit our tradition. I wish Goa Tourism and CCP together do something to improve some of the chronic or regular problems faced by the visitors of the annual parade so that every one goes back with good and lasting memories. - Lakhs of Rupees spent to erect barricades both side of the road/lane but people seen moving up and down inside the barricade/road thus denying clear view to many people who come to watch from far and wide (including tourists). Plenty of Police seen inside the barricade but they were of no use. - Perhaps, they erect steps/gallery type sitting arrangement (as in circuses) as there is plenty room available on either side of the road. - No one should be allowed to roam about inside the barricade, not even the cameramen . They should be allotted special space or a part of the parade street. Everybody is cameraman now, even a mobile phone owner. - Many kids seen engaged in the parade. Kids as young as 5. Imagine, what they must have gone through. They must have come here at lest at 2pm and were here beyond 8pm. Some parent also seen closely guarding their kids/walking them inside the barricade thus obstructing clear view of the spectators. If parents were needed closer to their kids then they should not have been here first place. NGOs involving child protection should take note of this regular phenomenon in the Float parade. Again, many youngsters (below 18) seen dancing throughout the street. Strict age restrictions should be in place for this type of events which ends up late in the night (which may also need late evening rehearsals prior to the event) - When they knew there were about 100 floats (small and big), the whole event should have started as early as 2pm. Whole parade street (D B Road) is about 1.5 kms long (From New Pato Bridge to Kala Academy). It takes up to one hour to cover the distance. There were upto 15 minutes gapes in between the floats, The last one which may have began say 7.30 has arrive at Kala Acadmy at 8.15. Some of the good floats seen between 6.45pm till 8pm where due to poor visibility after sunset, people were not able to enjoyed them all. The streets were not lit for this purpose/occasion. It also appears that importance is given only to the first part of the parade street where VIP, VVIP, Invited guests lounges or viewing galleries erected. - Foreigners should be here to watch the parade and not to participate. Almost all floats had some foreigners, some appeared to have joined in midway. It can affect our tradition, our traditional carnival I mean. joego...@yahoo.co.uk for Goa & NRI related info... http://in.groups.yahoo.com/group/GOAN-NRI/ For Goan Video Clips http://youtube.com/joeukgoa In Goa, Dial 1 0 8 For Hospital, Police, Fire etc The INTERNET now has a personality.
