Nritya sankul felicitates Victor Hugo Gomes of Goa Chitra at the Nrityomesh 2010 celebration

Nritya sankul celebrated Nrityonmesh 2010, its second annual celebration on 14th Feb at 10:30 am at Gomant Vidha Niketan, Smt Nandini Sahai Director of International Centre, Dona Paula. Was the Chief Guest and Smt Tanuja Jau, Principal of Little’s School, Fatorda was the guest of honour.

Nritya Sankul believes not just in dance training, but connecting with people, recognising their achievements and contribution to society. Shri Victor Hugo Gomes, Curator , Goa Chitra was felicitated on the occasion. Victor has done commendable work to preserve the Goan Heritage and culture. Goa Chitra is a monumental testament to one man's quest to preserve Goa's anachronous agrarian technology and life style. Nritya Sankul President Sachika Almeida and the students of Nritya Sankul felicitated this great Goan artist, with a shawl and a traditional Goan Lamp.

The other unique feature of the programme was performances by children with special needs, ladies between the age group of forty to fifty and 4 to 6 yr olds. Almost 200 students performed on stage.

Nritya Sankul is a young and dynamic classical Gurukul established under the guidance of guru and Sangeet Natya Academy awardee. Dr. Sucheta Bhide Chapekar. Rendering and nourishing Bharatnatyam to young and talented youth of Goa. The Nritya Sankool has as much as 150 students at the moment. Nritya Sankool has always been in the forefront to conduct special dance therapy sessions for special children, slow learners, street children, AIDS patients and people with special needs.

Nritya Sankul is not just about dance training and teaching but connecting and bonding people of India together through the process of events.

Nritya Sankul is headed by it’s director Ms. Sachika Almeida , a senior disciple of Guru Dr. Sucheta Chapekar, she has carved a niche for herself as a dancer, teacher, choreographer and Dance Therapist. Active in the field of Bharat Natyam for the past 25 years, Sachika is a Post -Graduate in Political Science (Goa University) and Post Graduate in Bharatnatyam (Pune University). A continuous learner that she is, presently Sachika had acquired training as a special educator from Prism Foundation, Pune; training in modern dance from Expression Dance Company, Mumbai. She is undergoing training in Kathak from Kalachaya, Pune. In addition to conducting Bharatnatyam classes she is fully fledged dance therapist for slow learners, mentally challenged children, street children, AIDS patients, people with special needs and also corporate. For Sachika dance is not just a passion but a way of life and she wants to earnestly share and promote it in totality for everyone.
