*Prof. Newman to be Felicitated* Prof: Newman Fernandes, former Principal of Rosary College Navelim and St. Xaviers College, Mapusa will be felicitated on his 60th birthday in a special function on 11th March 2010 at Auditorium 1, Marquinez Palace, near INOX, Panjim Goa. Hon. Chief Minister of Goa Shri. Digamber Kamat will be the Chief Guest on the occasion. His Grace Rev. Dr. Raul Gonsalves, Archbishop Emeritus and Prof. (Dr) D. Deobagkar, Vice Chancelor of Goa University will grace the occasion. Prof: Newman Fernandes’s contribution to education in Goa is noteworthy. Some of his achievements are: He started a new College, Rosary College of Commerce & Arts in Navelim, for the Archdiocese of Goa & Daman. In fact he was its Founder-Principal. He introduced many new academic disciplines as per the needs of the time thereby helping the students to be well equipped to face new challenges in life. At St. Xaviers College, Mapusa he left no stones unturned to take the college at a higher level not only educationally but in all respects. During his tenure as Principal of St. Xavier's College, Mapusa, Goa, he piloted the project of 'College with Potential for Excellence', and St. Xavier’s College Mapusa was selected as one of the Best 47 Colleges out of 15,000 Colleges in India, in 2004. On the occasion of his Felicitation a book “Streams of Water” – a tribute to Prof: Newman Fernandes - will be released. The book consists of articles written by educationists of national repute besides contributions from educationists from Goa.
