Monsoon Grey Centre for Design (www.monsoongrey.com) in collaboration with Gallery Gitanjali,Panjim has launched Zeitgeist, the first Art History Club in Goa (details below).

The first open session held on March 4th to explore the beginnings of Modern Art was very well received by the participants. The session traced the prehistory of modernism discussing the seminal works of the Neo-Classicists, Romantics and Realists. Special emphasis was laid on the role of Manet in subverting the artistic languages prevalent in the 19th century and in sowing the seeds of modernism in European art.

The club is facillitated by Apurva Kulkarni, an art historian, who looks forward to sharing his knowledge in this area with registered participants. The next session will be *IMPRESSIONISM*, the first movement in modern art featuring the artworks of Monet, Renoir, including a special emphasis on Degas.
