Konkani Rocks Shoots through Cyberspace

Last year, on December 3, Heritage Jazz presented a very innovative and
enlightening concept of 'Konkani Rocks' which struck the right chords in the
heart of Goa, creating a milestone in the world of Konkani.

With the thought of making this a regular feature, Heritage jazz launched the
“Konkani Rocks!” website (www.konkanirocks. com) on April 9, 2010 in
commemoration of 'World Konkani Day'.

This site intends to promote Konkani in context with art, culture, music and
entertainment. This is a platform for all Konkani speakers and Konkani lovers
across the globe to meet and share their ideas, debates and thoughts with each
other.

The launch of the website was held at St Inez on April 9 accompanied by a very
enlightening and interactive musical evening. The website was launched at the
hands of Santosh, who has been part of the Heritage jazz family for years,
along with the young audience present there.

Talented Goan artists Varun Carvalho and Shubert Cotta enthralled the young
kids with lovely music. The children swayed and danced to a beautiful Konkani
tunes. They actively participated in the show and sang along. Heritage Jazz
also brought along some learning and with this enlightening event; a very
talented music teacher who accompanied this show took a voice test and enrolled
interested kids to teach them Konkani songs through regular classes over this
year. Ankita Sinha of Heritage Jazz taught the kids a bit of Dekhni much to
their interest and delight; though a non-Goan herself, she has been brought up
here and is proud of our culture and language. This was a pure example of
national integration.

By reaching out to the slums, Heritage jazz extends its hands of support and
commitment in empowering these kids to bring a positive change and spread
inspiration in the whole society. Undoubtedly, kids are angels; a platter of
various talents, energy, zest and ambitions garnished by innocence and
incorruptibility.
Through this program Heritage Jazz hopes to imbue a sense of language
appreciation, culture and education into these underprivileged kids. It will
also support the community during their ‘Diwali Programme- Sponsor the
Narkasur’ and hope to have Konkani music played instead of the usual Bollywood.
This initiative will undeniably spread awareness to all levels of society and
will continue to do so.

When Heritage Jazz announced this year as 'The Year of Music', they meant
'Music for Everyone' irrespective of age, caste or creed. The launch was
symbolic in many ways as it stressed on education, talent, cultural integration
and love for our mother tongue.

As the kids were singing 'Goa' along with Varun and dancing the Dekhni with
Ankita, the vibe was simply overwhelming and everyone present saw that Konkani
truly rocks!
