The Supreme Court has recently rightly very rightly ruled that when a new government takes over at the Centre it cannot arbitrarily change the State Governors.
The trend of using Raj Bhavans as resting nests cum retirement homes for worn out party political heavy weights ought to be discontinued. We should thank God that Mr. N.D.Tiwari was not appointed Governor of Goa. He would have made it an official playboy home. With some potent Caju feni in hand the 88 year old would have had all the fun & frolic spilling on to the lawns of our Raj Bhavan. Only retired judges, so also senior bureaucrats after retirement along with distinguished officials of the Armed forced should be considered for the Raj Bhavans. A Governor should never be a rubber stamp and is expected to be apolitical and to pull up the State government for its wrong doings. The Governor being a constitutional head should act as the guardian of the state and while guiding the government, should never get involved in any party politics.
