As a non-student of any Portuguese school anywhere, some of us have studied statistics at a level higher than school. Based on that verifiable fact, I have the following questions (directed at Menezes) and comments on this topic:
1: On what scientific or unscientific basis did you deem that your village (whatever it is or was) to be avaerage? 2: What test did you apply to project (with whatever level of confidence) the data you collected from your village 3: What was your standard deviation or standard error of the mean? 4: I regret that "Talking" to old priests about their (50-60 year old) recollection, is not a scientific method for ascertaining data. 5: Using the Menezes-Method of Data Analysis (MMDA), one could also spout the following uncorroborated fact/non facts :a: Velim is the average village from Tiracol to Polem b: ALL the houses were made of "whatever'. c: Fried Kingfish was the staple fish for lunch To avoid the 'caju feni' type of anecdotal (non-verifiable) nonsense-claims, standard educational and reference materials use statistics to make statements. Additionally, to avoid human error is data analysis wrt socioeconomic data, Social Scientists (and others) use the SPSS package. jc Antonio Menezes <ac.mene...@gmail.com> wrote: *As a student in a Portuguese Secondary School called Liceu, I was asked to * *assist enumerators of a Census carried out during the Portuguese regime. Please do interview them and let Goanetters know of their assessment for the benefit of those who have no idea whatsoever about the socio -economic conditions during the period 1945 - 1961.
