Mickky's notary summoned by Crime Branch 2010-06-20 Crime Branch raided the office of Margao based Notary Adv. Joey Rodrigues and attached under a panchanamna a copy of the extract from the Notarial register pertaining to the affidavit sworn before him by absconding former Tourism Minister Micky Pacheco. The Crime branch has now summoned Notary Joey Rodrigues on June 21st for interrogation. Notary Joey Rodrigues is the husband of South Goa Zilla Parishad member Mrs. Nelly Rodrigues who is a close confidante of Mr. Micky Pacheco. Social activist Adv. Aires Rodrigues had demanded that the Police should investigate and take action against the Notary Adv. Joey Rodrigues for having on June 14th notarized the affidavit of absconding former Tourism Minister Micky Pacheco, the prime accused in the Nadia Torrado death case. The Crime Branch is expected to question Notary Joey Rodrigues as to what time on June 14th Micky Pacheco had appeared before him in Margao for notarizing the affidavit. Adv. Aires Rodrigues has stated that Notary Joey Rodrigues had notarized the affidavit without the presence of MLA Micky Pacheco. By the Notaries Rules, 1956 a Notary can notarize an affidavit only in the presence of the executant of the document and the witness identifying him. The High Court may outright dismiss the anticipatory bail of the former Tourism Minister if the affidavit is proved to be illegal. The anticipatory bail application filed by Micky Pacheco and Lyndon Monteiro will come up for hearing before Justice A.S.Oka of the Bombay High at Goa on Monday 21st June at 4.30 pm. Notary Joey Rodrigues being fully aware that Micky Pacheco was wanted by the police should have assisted the police by giving them the whereabouts of the accused former Minister who is wanted in connection with a very serious offence. Adv. Aires Rodrigues has stated that the manner in which Notary Joey Rodrigues has acted brings disrepute to the whole legal system and has to be set right. Adv. Rodrigues has further stated that Notary work is serious business and not all about rubber stamps only. The Affidavit sworn before Notary Joey Rodrigues at Margao on June 14th has been submitted by MLA Micky Pacheco to the High Court along with his anticipatory bail application. Notary Riodrigues is in between a rock and a hard place. He could be caught by the cops for not informing them of a proclaimed absconder and if he says he did not meet Mickky at all, he could be in danger of losing his license if he provided an affidavit without the presence of the executant of the document and witness identifying him.
