'Acid' wins CAT’s basketball tourney

Kuwait June 22, 2010: Carmel Alumni Tournaments (CAT’s) under the leadership of Effie de Melo alongside Calvin D’Souza organized its first ever Half-Court Basketball Tournament in Carmel School, Kuwait with the support of Sr. Maria Lytta. This one week open tournament was open for Indians of all age and other nationals studying in Indian schools. Twelve teams participated in the tournament namely: Acid, Aises, FJ BOYS ‘A’ and FJ BOYS ‘B’, Smooth Operators, Pacmen, Legacy, The Mercuric Knights, Crusaders, Street Squad, Predators And The Positives.

The teams put up great competition making it difficult for spectators in choosing their favorites in the different category awards. The two toughest teams namely Street Squad and Acid made it to the finals held on Wednesday 16th June.

Well trained AISES won the Third position over Pacmen and Michael D’Souza from AISES was awarded the Best Defensive Player of the tournament.

ACID, the Ex-Carmelites grabbed the First place with the tough Street Squad placed in Second position. Man of the Match at the Finals was awarded to Shabaz Syed from ACID. The Most Offensive Player of the tournament went to Elvis Castelino from ACID- Titty, the Captain of Street Squad was the Star Player who won the Most Valuable Player award along with the Highest scorer award with 93 points.

Other Highlights of the day: included Three Point Shootout awarded to Malcom Dias and The Crowd’s Choice Award went to Frederico de Melo of ACID. The organizing committee had two other special awards for the Most Promising Player and the Most Promising Team which went to Vipin Mathew and Legacy respectively. Young Upcoming Talent of Carmel School was awarded to young Marzouk Ali and the Youngest Team of the tournament, ‘Smooth Operators’ were also encouraged and awarded.

The organizers thanked their valuable sponsors NEN Attorneys and Legal Consultants (international), C&Z Solutions (IT experts),United Beverages who provided with soft drinks, Refreshment Trading Co who supplied Arwa Mineral Water and many other well wishers.
