Excise department sleuths on Saturday raided an illegally-operated liquor unit and seized alchohol worth Rs 20 lakh near the Goa-Karnataka border at Xeler, Loliem-Polem in Canacona.
Officials said that on a tip-off, the sleuths searched the unit and found that various brands of IMFL were produced there. Their inquiries revealed that the liquor was being marketed in Karnataka besides Goa. “Around 6,000 litres of alchohol was found stored in 28 barrels,” an officer said adding that labels, empty bottles, cans and other bottling material were also attached. The unit was in operation for at least two years, sources said. Gina Ferns
